Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding Trans-shipping
(Limited to the lower 48 states in the continental USA )

(1) Do I pay sales tax for my order?

We are not required to collect sales tax on any orders delivered to states outside of the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania .  MD and PA residents must pay 6% sales tax.

(2) What is the price for shipping?

We typically do not charge for shipping or in-home delivery and set-up of furniture on any orders of $8,000 or more, exclusive of all Red Dot, "at cost" sales and any clearance items.  National shipping of Red Dot, "at cost" or clearance items, either alone or packaged with regularly discounted items, will be estimated on a different basis by our management department.

Shipping costs on orders under $8,000 will depend on the size, weight, number of pieces, and the distance to be shipped.  However, Jarrettsville Furniture makes every effort to reduce the price of the merchandise you are ordering to a level that helps to offset those shipping costs, especially if the merchandise is being sent directly from the manufacturer to the customer or the customer’s own delivery service.

Please note that orders and quotes for items that don't approach this minimum for free shipping and in-home delivery are not practical or cost-effective for us or our customers.  For instance, a single chair or an occasional table going to a remote state would likely cost more in delivery charges than the item itself.  Cost of shipping of orders of at least $4,000 to $5,000 to the customer can possibly be shared by us so the sale will still be a good value to the buyer.

(3) Is Jarrettsville Furniture, Inc. responsible for any damage during shipping? And do I have the right to refuse the shipment if the merchandise is not in good condition?

The delivery services we use will inspect, with us or with the manufacturer, each piece at the point of pick-up.  From there on, they will bear the responsibility for any damage since we pay them for insurance for the total dollar value of the delivered items.  If your order has any damage, you may either refuse it and send it back with the shipper or note the damage with the shipper on their delivery manifest or invoice and file a claim for the damage or repair of the item in question.  We will help you with your claim and often pay a local repair facility in your area to make the repairs if they are under $500.

Freight services and transport damage should be reported by the freight carrier.  Once it leaves our facility or the manufacturer’s facility and has been inspected, we bear no further responsibility for any items and their safe delivery.  That’s why we pay the shippers a high premium for them to take responsibility from the time it leaves us to the time it arrives at your destination.  However, we will help you in any way we can to see that the furniture is repaired or replaced.

If a latent manufacturing flaw is discovered sometime after your delivery, we have recourse to that particular manufacturer for replacement or repair if it is indeed proven to be a flaw such as split wood, a finish flaw or a mechanical malfunction no attributable to abuse or mis-handling.

(4) How does payment to Jarrettsville Furniture work?

You may pay half as a deposit to get the order underway, then pay the remainder when delivery to you is imminent and about to be scheduled. All money balances due need to be paid in advance by a check or money order to Jarrettsville Furniture, Inc.  Credit cards are not acceptable for trans-shipments.

(5) What is the approximate delivery time?

Furniture special-ordered from the manufacturer can take from 2 weeks to 18 or more weeks to be shipped to us or one of our delivery services.  From there, it’s up to the furniture service and delivery companies that will be handling the delivery.  It typically takes 10 days to 2 weeks from the time the furniture is ready for delivery from either the manufacturer or from us.

(6)  What kind of delivery services do you use?

We only use delivery services that are experienced in the handling and delivery of high-end furniture. They take great care in the handling of the furniture for our clients and are thoroughly acquainted with proper set-up procedures for beds, mirror installations on dressers, etc.  We never use “freight” companies to deliver furniture to your home, however, our furniture manufacturers may use freight companies to deliver your furniture to our delivery services, but these are usually tried-and-true companies that the manufacturers have been using for years and have trust in their conscientious treatment of fine goods for transit.

(7)  Are there companies that pose difficulties in trans-shipping?

Certain manufacturers request that we do not ship to new customers outside of a 100-mile radius from our store.  In particular, Henkel Harris and Zimmerman Chair are two manufacturers that maintain that request and policy which we honor. Exceptions to this ruling are made for sales of floor samples from our inventory and former Jarrettsville Furniture customers who either reside now out-of-state or have a second home out-of-state.
